Federal holiday

Washington's Birthday (Presidents' Day)

Officially Washington's Birthday, popularly called Presidents' Day, observed the third Monday of February.

History

The Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1968 moved the celebration of George Washington's birthday from February 22 to the third Monday of February to create predictable three-day weekends. Many states recognize the day under the broader 'Presidents' Day' name.

On academic calendars

Most spring academic calendars list Presidents' Day as a single-day closure. A growing number of districts pair it with a teacher work day to create a long weekend or mid-winter recess.
